Guardian Angels on motorcycles
India
is a nation of cowards. Yes you heard it right, 'cowards'!! No matter how
arrogant we Indians are and fight with one another for stupid reasons we don't
have the guts to stand up when we need to stand up. Women get raped and people
don't give a damn, two men get protecting their loved ones get beaten up in
Mumbai by goondas and people don't give a damn, a woman hangs herself on a busy
street in Kolkata and people don’t give a damn, a guy jumps off the fourth
floor of a mall and people don’t give a damn. And who are these cowardly people?
It is you and me.
The
following is a first person true life incident.
A
family is travelling by car from Chennai, Tamilnadu to Bangalore, Karnataka to
attend a wedding. There are five souls that are travelling in the car. A guy,
his dad, his mom, his wife and then his little baby girl. His mother is holding
her granddaughter in her arms. The baby girl just completed her fourth month. The
family had travelled this road several times in the past but never would have
they thought this one would bring such an impact in their lives.
Everything
was going according to the plan of the day. They had started from Chennai at
8am as pre planned and were almost reaching Vellore, Tamilnadu until the
unthinkable happens. The car collides with a truck on the outskirts of Vellore,
Tamilnadu. The car was travelling on the fast lane at nearly 100kmph. A few
hundred meters ahead a long truck carrying cars was on travelling on the slow
lane on the left. The driver of the truck notices a U-turn approaching and performs
the tight U-turn to his right and apparently doesn’t seem to notice the car
coming on the fast lane or is such a lazy ass to look into the side mirror.
In
the fraction of a second all hell breaks loose. The Dad who was driving the car
slams the brakes on the car and swirls to the left to avoid the truck which was
now covering all the three lanes. Soon he realised that collision was
inevitable. He knew if he crashed into the truck the car would be slammed
underneath the truck and tried his best and slammed the car into the back
wheels of the truck.
Engineering
life saving marvels called the airbags inflate in milliseconds and save the dad
and son in the front seats from any injuries. The car comes to a halt. The
truck driver doesn’t even care a little for the havoc he has created and moves
on. The father and son in the front seat suffer only minor bruises. The wife in
the backseat looks at her girl in the guy’s mother’s lap. The baby was covered
with patches of blood. The wife screams and takes the baby at the sight of
blood and wipes the blood and notices that the baby is safe. She looks for the
source of blood only to realise it was from the mother. The guy’s mother’s head
had a deep cut in her forehead and she was losing blood rapidly. The wife
notices that she herself had a bruise near her left eyes.
A
minute has passed since the incident and by this time everyone had managed to
get out of the car and the father-son duo was trying to stop vehicles for help.
But none stopped. All cars they tried to stop didn’t even bother to slow down
and help. Why would they not stop? Was the worth of a life less than reaching
their destinations on time? Was their time more valuable than the time required
saving a soul? Maybe humanity existed no more or perhaps applicable if and only
if the blood of their loved ones was spilled? Cowards.
Time
was running out. They were stranded about forty kilometres from Vellore,
Tamilnadu. When all hope of getting any help seem to fade away it was a miracle
that God performed by sending three angels to their help....Angels on
motorcycles.
Three
totally unrelated persons stopped to help and offered to take them to the
nearest hospital, the Apollo KH Hospital which was two kilometres from their
current location. The bleeding mother sat on the pillion seat and the rider
requested her not to feel bad and she could hold him tight while riding and told
her that he was not bothered if her blood stained his shirt. It was one of the
most generous and assuring words that could lighten the heart at the time. He
was intelligent enough to tell her to stay calm and keep talking to him so that
he would know that she is conscious while he was riding. The other two bike
riders offered to drop the guy, his wife and baby girl. The father stayed back
with the car.
The
three persons dropped the mother, son, his wife and baby girl and left without
even expecting anything in return for the invaluable service they offered. The
mother had several tests before confirming that she was perfectly okay and
escaped with only a three inch cut on her forehead. All the rest had only bruises
and the baby was perfectly safe thanks to the mother who held her with her
life.
No
lives were lost yet all they needed was someone to drop them off at the
hospital and people just left them to their fate. Do you think you are safe?
Never. And when something does happen then you would feel the agony of the
family that you previously failed to stop and provide a helping hand. I’m still
shocked how tragic event took place and the way people passing by reacted to
it. But this post is to serve a greater purpose. I don’t know the three persons
who helped my aunt and her family that day. But by saving her and her family I
am in debt to you for you have given back to me my greatest storyteller. Thank
you whoever you are and God bless you.
This
date, Friday the 13th of September will always be remembered in our memories
as the day God sent to protect us three Guardian Angels....on motorcycles.
