Guardian Angels on motorcycles

India is a nation of cowards. Yes you heard it right, 'cowards'!! No matter how arrogant we Indians are and fight with one another for stupid reasons we don't have the guts to stand up when we need to stand up. Women get raped and people don't give a damn, two men get protecting their loved ones get beaten up in Mumbai by goondas and people don't give a damn, a woman hangs herself on a busy street in Kolkata and people don’t give a damn, a guy jumps off the fourth floor of a mall and people don’t give a damn. And who are these cowardly people? It is you and me. The following is a first person true life incident. A family is travelling by car from Chennai, Tamilnadu to Bangalore, Karnataka to attend a wedding. There are five souls that are travelling in the car. A guy, his dad, his mom, his wife and then his little baby girl. His mother is holding her granddaughter in her arms. The baby girl just completed her fourth month. The family had travelled this ...

Good old friend

A long time ago when I was a kid living far away from India I had a friend to whom I used to write letters and would wait for weeks to hear back from. The mere sight of his letters would bring joy to me. The envelope with my name on it and an Indian postal stamp on it meant happiness out of this world. Of course the stamp on the envelope served no purpose as it was delivered by hand by either relatives or friends coming back from India. It was a gift from my friend who knew I was fond of collecting stamps. This friend is my grandpa. I was young when my dad’s parents passed away in the early 90s. As I remember, when dad’s mother passed away many of dad’s friends came to our home to give their condolences to dad. I was too young to understand about death. And so I grew up under the love of my mom’s parents who loved me like crazy since I was their first grandchild. My first friend would probably be my dad from whom I derived inspirations and then mom from whom I derived l...

Of Kings, Queens and Jack Asses

The past week has been horrifying in New Delhi with major protests against the gang rape of an innocent 23 year old girl and brutal attack on her male accompanying her on a private bus during late hours. There are statistics that say that a female is raped every 20 minutes and this is something we ought to be proud of being in the world’s largest democracy when we can’t even come up with laws that can protect the female population. I can’t blame the idiots in parliament who pass stupid laws either. It was you who put them in those seats in the first place. The recent gang rape incident will remain in the media only as long as the numbers are good on the ratings and soon later the issue will die out like a candle in a storm and never be heard of again. First and foremost I want to set some thinking standards before going further. When one hears of news that a female was raped in some ‘metropolitan city’ during ‘late hours’, the first thing that comes to the mind is that she might...

Purpose of a dream

Image
I’m sure we all have dreams as kids. Dreams about the job you want to do, about the house you want to live in, about the class of the car you want drive and about the partner you want to spend your lifetime with. As kids we had dreams that were vast and we were eager to grow up and live the dreams we dreamt. When I was a little kid, at an age of five I wanted to be a pilot. It was so cool to fly something that huge and live big. That was my first dream. Next year I was in India for summer holidays and a television advertisement caught my eye with a police in it kicking bad asses and the next moment I wanted to become a police officer. My third dream (as much as I regret it now!!) was to become an engineer. Other dreams were to make my own flying vehicle and with a secret underground garage for it. These were some of the crazy dreams I dreamt when I grew up. I am sure others had even more crazy ones!! Dreams give us a purpose to achieve and conquer your ambitions and ...
